Higginsville TSF Lift

VCS is completing a $1.1m TSF Lift Project at Higginsville Minesite for Avoca Mining and Westgold. Scope is to Lift TSF 3 and TSF 4 by 2.5m, including decant structures and access-ways. Approximate volume for both TSFs 130,000m3. The project is expected to be completed Mid Jan 2018.

Esperance Iron Ore Out Loading (ON-GOING)

VCS has held the ongoing project of out loading approximately 11.4 million tonnes per year of iron ore at the Port of Esperance for over 6 years. This contract includes project management, maintenance and operational staff continually meeting or exceeding output targets whilst ensuring stringent safety and environmental guidelines are kept. Additional site works include product management in the storage facilities and extended maintenance programs on external equipment.

New Norcia Bypass 
Decmil  (Main Roads WA)
Jointly funded by the Australian and West Australian Governments, this $29.8million project was designed by Jacobs and Arup and constructed by Decmil Australia with VCS as the major Earthworks & Drainage Subcontractor. New Norcia is Australia's only privately owned monastic town and the whole town is registered on the National Estate. Founded in 1846, it is a popular tourist destination and 27 of the town buildings are classified by the National Trust. The New Norcia Bypass will stretch for 6km to the east of the historic town. It features a new 88-metre bridge over the Moore River and a scenic lookout. The bypass will remove heavy vehicles from the historic town precinct and allow for future development and restoration of the town.

Tailings Storage Facility 2 for Millennium Minerals

Kings Tailings Storage Facility

VCS was contracted by FMG to construct a Tailing Storage Facility. Located at Solomon Mine, 60km North of Tom Price, works included the installation of a sub-surface seepage collection system, excavation of the collection sump, installation of concrete encased HDPE decant line, construction tailings dam embankment totalling 1.9 million cubic metres of compacted fill, placement of rock armour, construction of safety windrows and road furnishings.

Pilbara Energy Pipeline Relocation
KT Pipelines
VCS was contracted by KT Pipelines to provide excavation of a ramped trench approximately 9m deep, 20m wide and 400m long in which the main Port Hedland town supply gas pipeline would be re-routed by localised lowering, allowing the installation of the Roy Hill rail works to take place. 

Mainline Batter Stabilisation Package

VCS was contracted by FMG to repair 44,000m2 of scoured batters and installing a combination of geofabric, rock armour and geoweb reinforcing along the batter. This has provided FMG with a permanent solution, which requires less maintenance than the unprotected batters.

Anderson Point Pre-Construction Maintenance and Civil works

VCS was contracted by FMG to construct a level pump pad in the Southern Settlement Area (SSA), widening of a pump pipe corridor from the SSA across to the Eastern Settlement Area (ESA) through FMG Operations area and repairs to the South Eastern Settlement Area (SESA), external and internal batters, re-grading the embankment access road and rock protection placement beneath the existing discharge pipes.

VCS was contracted by FMG to construct a Decant Tower which included earthworks, concrete foundations, steel water transfer pipeline installation, supply and installation of slotted concrete tower segments, installation of a rock surround and an access causeway from the existing pit bench to the top of the decant tower.

Nammuldi Below Water Table Project – Road Maintenance and Miscellaneous Earthworks

KVG Joint Venture was contracted by Rio Tinto Iron Ore to provide civil construction services as part of their Nammuldi Below Water Table (NBWT ) Project at Nammuldi/Brockman 2 Mine Site, Tom Price. Work included dust suppression and maintenance, grading of the 30km long Brockman 2/Nammuldi access road, clearing of 568Ha of vegetation from 12 agricultural irrigation pivots to be used for the mine de-watering surplus water and road construction.

Port Hedland - Lever Repairs

KVG Joint Venture was contracted under a wet hire plant and personnel supply contract, to undertake repair works to the DSL Intake Pond embankment and leevees. Works involved the removal of the existing rock armour, re-building and re-compacting the embankment batters, placement of geofabric material and new rock armour. The final surface of the majority of the levees have been finished with roadbase material.

Northstar – Slurry and Return Water Pipeline

Viento Kimberley Pipelines (VKP) was contracted to construct a 42.8km steel slurry pipeline of 55.8km of HDPE return of bore water pipelines including associated earthworks, creek crossing and testing.

Nullagine Iron Ore Project – OC3 Overburden Removal and OC4 / OC5 HAUL ROAD

VCS was contracted by BC Iron to provide the removal of overburden at BC Irons’ Nullagine Mine. The fleet comprised a Cat D11 Dozer for ripping; Cat 992 Loader and a fleet of 777 Cat dump trucks for the load and haulage of 250,000bcm of overburden, all completed in the duration of 3 months for a contract value of $1.5 Million. Due to the excellent work carried out on the OC3 Overburden Project, BC Iron awarded further works to VCS to construct the OC4 & OC5 Haul Roads. This included the construction of approximately 5kms of haul roads, the installation of culverts, clearing and topsoil stripping. These works were carried out around sensitive heritage areas.

Paraburdoo Tailings Storage Facility Upgrade

An ICRG/VCS Venture was contracted by Rio Tinto Iron Ore to construct the upgrade to the Paraburdoo Tailings Storage facility. Works included; the removal of redundant pipework, clearing, stripping, foundation preparation, supply and installation of drainage and culverts, embankment/roads/ramps construction, rising of existing decant tower and rising of the spillway.

Minjar Gold Tailings Storage Facility Upgrade – Cell A and Cell B

VCS was contracted by Minjar Gold to upgrade their Tailings Storage Facility twice. Works included; embankment construction by swamp dozer using tailings, embankment construction utilising borrow material with excavator and 40t articulated trucks, and the rising of existing decant towers.

HD4 Waste Fines Facility Project

This $7.2m project comprised of raising and widening existing tailing dam embankments at Rio Tinto’s Hope
Downs 4 Mine, North West of Newman WA.
The scope of works included:
• Loading and hauling over 750,000m3 of embankment fill to embankments, ramps and access roads.
Productions peaked at over 13,000m3 per day.
• Construction of a new decant facility
• Removal, upgrade and re-installation of 730m of existing distribution pipelines and the supply of 830m
of new pipelines including fittings.
• Extension and installation of new underdrainage pipework including mechanical and electrical works.
• Crushing and screening of mine waste to produce several quality products

Solomon Ammonium Nitrate Bulk Storage Facility

VCS was contracted by FMG to construct the first stage of a 2000 tonne Ammonium Nitrate (AN) and Emulsion (ANE) bulk storage facility to support the expanding Solomon Mining Operations. VCS’s scope included clearing & grubbing, foundation preparation, drill & blast activities, embankment fill, supply and install of drainage and culverts, sediment ponds, structural fill and basecourse installation.

Starting in April 2013, VCS secured the contract to complete mobile plant hire combined with a dedicated maintenance team to ensure maximum availability. With over 100 items plus field service vehicles and purpose built workshop facilities, VCS assisted Ansaldo STS with the construction of the Rio Tinto rail automation package over the 300+ kilometres in the north west.

Based at the Wheatstone LNG project, Thiess were responsible for major earthworks over a three year period. VCS was able to supply multiple site specific mobile plant items including dedicated service technicians working in closely with the Thiess management.

Nullagine Iron Ore Project – Mining and Crushing

VCS undertook all mining and crushing activities at BC Iron’s Nullagine Iron Ore Mining Operation. Activities onsite included the operation of surface mining units, push-up, load and haul of ore and waste and crushing and screening to produce Bonnie Fines direct shipping ore.
